Notes
- Pm on the 1st st to not lose sts.
- The beanie is worked flat then the 2 sides are seamed together.
- Using half double crochet (hdc) for the body and half double crochet in the back loop only (hdc blo) for the band.
- The beginning ch does not count as a st unless specified.
- The stitch count will be displayed as follows: 0-3 (3-6, 6-12, Toddler, Child) (Teen/Small Adult, Medium Adult, Large Adult). If there is only one number, it applies to all sizes.
- Rows 3 to 20 (22, 22, 28, 28) (34, 34, 38, 38): means rep from row 3 to 20 for size (0-3), 3 – 22 for size (3-6) etc.
Pattern
BODY
Row 1: With the larger hook, starting with a slip knot, ch 34 (36, 38, 42, 44) (46, 48, 50), hdc in 2nd ch from the hook – pm in the 1st st here and throughout – hdc across remaining chs, turn. 33 (35, 37, 41, 43) (45, 47, 49) sts
Row 2: Ch 1, hdc in 1st st and across, turn.
Rows 3 to 11 (12, 13, 15, 16) (17, 18, 19): rep row 2. Do not fasten off.
- If you would like a shorter (more fitted) or taller (slouchy) hat, adjust length here by adding or subtracting rows.
- The band is crocheted directly onto the body.
BAND
Row 1: With the smaller hook, ch 8 (8, 9, 9, 11) (11, 13, 13), hdc in 2nd ch from the hook, hdc across remaining chs, at the body’s edge, sk first hdc of the body and sl st in next 2 hdc, turn. 7 (7, 8, 8, 10) (10, 12, 12)
Row 2: Sk the 2 sl sts of the body’s edge, hdc blo in the 1st st and across, turn.
Row 3: Ch 1, hdc blo in the 1st st and across, sl st in next 2 hdc of the body’s edge, turn.
- Rep rows 2 and 3 across the body, finishing on a row 2. Do not fasten off.
SEAMING
- Fold the beanie, align each st of the band, insert the hook through both sts of the band, sl st across to seam the band up to the body. Fasten off with a long tail.
- Keep the beanie folded the same way to continue with the seaming.
- (RS) With yarn and needle, using a mattress stitch, seam the sides of the body from the band to the crown.
- After joining the sides, weave the needle and yarn through every other stitch around the top of the beanie and tighten to close the crown and go around a couple of times to secure crown.
- Fasten off, attach pom pom and weave in ends.
NOTE: The pattern has been updated since the video was published, and the seaming in the pattern differs from what is shown in the video.
