Supplies Needed
The Yarn
I used Lion Brand, Cover Story, Lazy Days #6 Super Bulky Yarn,
It is a super bulky #6 weight, 125 yds /114 m, 8.8 oz/250 g, 100% Polyester, shown in Sandstone. It is incredibly soft and silky feel and subtle sheen.
Designed with a unique chainette or tubular structure, it creates dimensional, “juicy” stitches that make it perfect for statement projects like my Chloe Clucth or the Brooklyn Bag. This yarn is perfect for any crochet projects!

Substitute Yarn:
Pakulm, Tshirt yarn, 1.1″ wide (100% Polyester, 65 yds/59.4 m, 3.5 oz/99.2 g).
T-shirt yarn is a thick, flat, ribbon-like textile made from jersey knit fabric (typically cotton or cotton-polyester blends), often repurposed from factory waste. It is exceptionally soft, flexible, and stretchy, making it ideal for fast, sturdy, and sustainable projects like baskets, rugs, and handbags.

Easy & Enjoyable Construction
The construction is simple and straightforward.
The Delaney Tote is crocheted in two pieces directly onto the wooden handles and then joined together to form the base of the bag.

Notes
- The handles will be attached to the bag with a sc as we crochet along (see pictures).
- The bag is done in two panels then sewn together.
- The st count is displayed in parentheses. (30)
- Place a stitch marker on the 1st st of every row so not to lose stitches – move up at every row.
- Ch 1 does not count as a st.
Attaching yarn to the handles

With the working yarn on top of the handle, insert hook beneath the handle and pull up a loop, from the top of the handle YO and pull through both loops. Sc made.
Pattern
BAG PANEL – MAKE 2
- The handle is crocheted directly onto the bag.
- Begin by creating two separate pieces, one on each side of the handle.
- Once both pieces are complete, they will be joined together to form the bottom of the bag.
FIRST PIECE
- The 1st piece starts by making a ch then attaching it to the handle.
- Starting with a slip knot, ch 11, attach to handle with a sc (see pictures), sc on handle one more time, turn.
- To make a wider bag, just add chs here, bearing in mind that 2 sts will add approximately 1″.
Row 1: Ch 1, working in the back bump of the ch, hdc in 2nd ch from the hook – pm in 1st st – move up at every row, hdc in rem chs, turn. (11)
Row 2: Ch 1, hdc blo across, sc on handle twice, turn.
Row 3: Ch 1, hdc blo across, turn.
Rows 4 to 5: Rep rows 2 and 3 once.
Row 6: Rep row 2 one more time – finishing with only 1 sc on the handle.
- Fasten off.
SECOND PIECE
- The 2nd piece starts by attaching the yarn to the handle then making the ch.
- Starting with a slip knot, attach yarn on the opposite side of the handle with a sc.
- Ch 12
- If the width was altered, adjust chs here plus 1 extra ch.
Row 1: Working in the back bump of the ch, hdc in 2nd ch from the hook – pm in 1st st – move up at every row, hdc in rem chs back to the handle, sc on handle twice, turn. (11)
- Note: When attaching to the handle, crochet in the same direction as the 1st piece so the sts align when we will join the 2 pieces together.
Row 2: Ch 1, 11 hdc blo across, turn.
Row 3: Ch 1, hdc blo across, sc on handle twice, turn.
Rows 4 to 5: Rep rows 2 and 3 once.
Row 6: Rep row 2 one more time – finishing with only 1 sc on the handle.
- Do not fasten off.
- The 2 pieces will now be joined by working additional sc on the handle and picking up the sts from the 1st piece.
BOTTOM OF BAG
- Work 8 sc across the handle.
- Continue with 11 hdc blo across the 1st piece and turn.
- You should have 22 hdc and 8 sc. (30)
Row 1: Ch 1, work 11 hdc blo across piece, 8 hdc across the handle, and 11 hdc blo across the other piece, turn. (30)
Rows 2: Ch 1, hdc blo across, turn.
Rows 3 to 14: Rep row 2.
- You can change the height of the bag by adding or removing rows here, bearing in mind that 2 rows will add approximately 1″ – make sure to adjust the other panel of the bag accordingly.
- Fasten off and weave in ends.
- Make the second panel.
SEAMING
- You can choose either side as the right side – just pick the one that looks best to you, and make sure both panels match and the rows align.
- Lay both bag panels next to each other with right side facing up.
- With yarn and needle, align each row and st and seam the sides and bottom of the bag using a mattress st.
