If you love modern crochet projects that are both stylish and practical, you’re going to fall in love with my Chloe Crochet bag pattern. Designed with beautiful rectangular wooden handles and a rich, textured stitch, this crochet bag pattern is one of my absolute favorites—and it’s easy to see why it’s become a bestseller 💛
Whether you’re making it for yourself or as a thoughtful handmade gift, this crochet purse pattern is the perfect mix of function, texture, and everyday style.
The Inspiration Behind This Crochet Bag Pattern
I had just finished my Brooklyn Crochet Bag, and I knew I wanted to design another crochet bag that felt modern, timeless, and just a little bit different.
That’s when I found these gorgeous rectangular wooden handles—and everything clicked.
From there, I chose the Herringbone crochet stitch because it creates such a clean, knit-like texture while still being simple to work up. As a result, you get a bag that looks fancy and eye-catching but is still totally approachable to make.
Above all, I wanted this crochet bag pattern to feel fun and satisfying from start to finish.

Supplies Needed
Yarn
This crochet bag pattern was designed with T-shirt yarn, which gives the bag structure and durability —perfect for everyday use.
T-shirt yarn is a thick, flat, ribbon-like textile made from jersey knit fabric (typically cotton or cotton-polyester blends), often repurposed from factory waste. It is exceptionally soft, flexible, and stretchy, making it ideal for fast, sturdy, and sustainable projects like baskets, rugs, and handbags
However, if you don’t have t-shirt yarn on hand, you can absolutely substitute it with Lion Brand Cover Story, Lazy Days, which is very soft, slightly shiny, and durable. It also features a modern, tubular “chainette” construction with a soft 100% polyester filler.

Wooden Handles
I chose these rectangular Wooden Handles because I instantly fell in love with their clean, modern shape. They felt like the perfect way to elevate a simple crochet bag into something that looks stylish and put-together, while still keeping that handmade charm.
From the moment I had them in my hands, I knew I wanted to design a crochet bag around them. Their structure naturally pairs so beautifully with the herringbone stitch, creating a piece that feels both sturdy and effortlessly chic.
Above all, these handles really set the tone for the entire design—and they’re what make this crochet bag feel just a little extra special.

👜 Construction
This crochet bag pattern is designed with a simple, beginner-friendly construction.
The wooden handles are attached as you crochet, so everything comes together naturally as you go. Once both sides are complete, they’re joined together to finish the bag.
As a result, you get a bag that looks fancy but is completely handmade by you.

🎀 Make It Your Own
One of my favorite parts about this crochet purse is how easy it is to customize.
For example, you can:
- Add a fun charm or tassel for personality
- Choose bold colors for a statement piece
- Keep it neutral for a classic, everyday bag
Because of this, no two bags will ever look the same—and that’s the beauty of handmade.
🎥 Step-by-Step Video Tutorial
To make this crochet bag pattern even more beginner-friendly, I’ve included a full step-by-step video tutorial to guide you through the entire process.
So if you’re someone who loves visual learning, you’ll feel confident every step of the way.
In addition, the written pattern walks you through everything clearly, making it perfect for both beginners and more experienced crocheters.
