If you love crochet projects that are both practical and fun, the Amelia Crochet Tote Bag Pattern is one you’ll want on your hook right away. Designed with a beautiful wavy texture and plenty of room for all your essentials, this crochet tote is perfect for everything from grocery runs to beach days.

Even better, it’s easy to customize with your favorite colors—so every bag turns out completely unique.

✨ The Inspiration Behind the Amelia Tote

This crochet bag pattern began with the long wave crochet stitch. I had just finished my Granny Square Crochet  Bag Pattern and was ready to create something with a completely different feel. I’ve always been drawn to the way this stitch creates a soft, flowing texture that mirrors gentle ocean waves.

It instantly takes me back to being in the water—surfing, feeling that steady rhythm, and moving with the waves as everything just flows.

Because of that, I wanted this crochet tote to feel like an ocean-to-earth project. Something that captures that energy from the water and carries it into everyday life—calm, natural, and easy to wear.

As a result, the Amelia Crochet Tote Bag blends texture, movement, and color into a piece that feels both playful and grounded—like those beach days that slowly turn into sunset evenings.

Play with Color (or Keep It Simple)

One of my favorite things about this crochet tote bag pattern is how versatile it is when it comes to color.

You can:

  • Use multiple colors for a bold, striped, statement look
  • Stick to two colors for a more classic style
  • Or even make it in one solid shade for a clean, timeless feel

Because the long wave crochet stitch naturally creates movement, every color combination looks a little different—so no two bags are ever the same.

Easy Construction, Fast & Beginner-Friendly

The construction is simple and beginner-friendly.

You’ll start by creating a rectangular base, and then the bag is worked in the round. From there, you’ll use the long wave crochet stitch in an easy 4-row repeat, making it relaxing to follow and fun to watch come together.

In addition:

  • The long wave crochet stitch works up quickly, making this project fast and fun to complete
  • It is constructed in one piece
  • No sewing is required

As a result, this is a great project if you just want something relaxing and easy to make.

So if you’re someone who loves visual learning, you’ll feel confident every step of the way.

A Tote You’ll Actually Use

This isn’t just a pretty crochet project—it’s one you’ll reach for all the time.

The Amelia Crochet Tote is:

  • Large enough for shopping trips
  • Perfect for beach days or park outings
  • Great for carrying yarn, books, or everyday essentials

In other words, it’s designed to fit into your real life while still looking handmade and special.

Add a Tassel for the Perfect Finish

To give your bag a little extra personality, you can finish it off with a tassel.

It’s a simple detail, but it adds just the right touch—especially if you use leftover yarn from your project to tie everything together.
